wherein we go back.

Sometimes, when you are a photographer, you gotta call a friend and get your family on the other side of the camera. Just for fun. Photos by Erin Tegeler Photography.

Oregon has been good to us.

Our church wrapped their arms around us and let us breathe, freeing us from past hurt. Teens came into our home weekly for food and life. Junior high and high school students loved our girls like little sisters, always including. Together we entered community and laughed and learned and we showed them what we know of Jesus. They showed us unconditional love.

Our family supported us, provided for us, and let us live in obedience to Jesus, no matter how absurd the circumstances.

Our friends gathered weekly over a meal prepared by all of us. We prayed for our needs and our wants and we entered into each others’ lives fully.

The weather was hard. But God is good and life actually can be fantastic when the temperature is far too low for far too long.

But still, we found ourselves in the difficulties of part time jobs and living under a roof purely by the generosity of JD’s brother Kenneth.

We dug in our heels and lived and trusted and responded to our call and we waited. And because we have a gracious God who knows what we need, the Lord gave me these verses to memorize, put on our walls, and repeat over and over…

Trust in the Lord and do good.

Dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.

Be present. Enjoy. Dwell. Live. Breathe. Live exactly how you believe you should. Trust. You are provided for.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Delight in Him. Delight in who He says He is. Taste and see.

Commit your way to the Lord.

Trust in him and he will act.

Lord you know. Trust. Wait. HE WILL ACT.

He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

Please God.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.

When Kenneth put a ring on her finger, we dropped to our knees in excitement and prayer, trusting that God knows our timeline and our needs. And we waited. For HIM to act.

Meanwhile, remember that island? The one we left two years ago?

It kept popping up in my head and my heart. And then it started to really nag at JD too. Even our girls would occasionally ask God to move us back to Hawaii.

So we prayed and surrendered and I even asked the Lord to make it go away. We are here and life is good here, and how in the world would that even happen anyway?

Friends, the Lord has made a straight path for us. His plans for us to move back to the islands could not be more clear. Those desires… apparently they weren’t put there accidentally.

We will be moving back to the windward side on the island of Oahu this fall. JD has accepted a {full time!} job with Hilti and we are overjoyed and nervous and heartsick all at the same time.

Thank you, those who prayed with us. The Lord has heard all of it.

Oh Annie How exciting! and I am in this waiting place as well. Trusting God now that we are here in Oregon and waiting for clear direction on what next? I am happy for your family.
